Q&A on Injectables BOTOX and Filler

As we get older, our appearance naturally changes. We get wrinkles, and our face loses its plumpness, and the face staring back at us in the mirror doesn’t look like it used to. While we can’t escape the hands of time, we can work collaboratively with you to help you look and feel your best.

Injectables continue to be among our most-requested treatments for their aesthetic anti-aging benefits. There are two types of injectables: neuromodulators (e.g., BOTOX COSMETIC®) and fillers

From doing several consultations, we’ve realized that people often don’t realize which injectable treatment they actually want (or rather, need). That’s why we highly encourage our patients to come in for a free consultation before booking an injectable treatment. Our highly trained cosmetic injectors will work with you to decide the right treatment plan for you. Smoother, more youthful skin is just an appointment away.

This week, we’re answering some questions on BOTOX COSMETIC® and JUVÉDERM facial filler so that you can look and feel younger, more confident, and carefree.

BOTOX COSMETIC®

What is Botox?

BOTOX COSMETIC® is a purified protein injected into the muscles that cause wrinkles. The neurotoxins temporarily relax those muscles and prevent them from moving to give your face a more refreshed and rejuvenated wrinkle-free appearance.

Botox Cosmetic® is actually a brand name. There are many different types of neuromodulators (Dysport®, Nuceiva™ or Xeomin®), but Botox Cosmetic® is the bestselling toxin in the world and the brand most-requested by name.

After doing a consultation with your experienced cosmetic injector, you’ll establish your desired outcome. Then, when you return to the clinic for your treatment, they will inject a tiny amount of BOTOX COSMETIC® into the muscle being treated. It’s virtually painless and over within 30 minutes. You’ll begin to see results as soon as 24 hours later.

Where can I get Botox?

You can get BOTOX COSMETIC® in many places —just ask your injector. We mostly inject it on the forehead, glabellar (frown) lines, and crow’s feet. BOTOX COSMETIC® is also known for treating migraines or hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), which is a common reason for getting  BOTOX COSMETIC®

JUVÉDERM® FACIAL FILLER

What is filler? How does it work?

Fillers are injectable treatments that can shape and contour many areas of the face. When used with precision, filler can soften, smooth, define, illuminate, and balance the skin on your face for a more beautiful, natural-looking, more youthful appearance.

As we age, we may begin to lose fat and fullness in the face. Facial fillers are a common anti-aging treatment that can plump up the areas of our face that have sunken in to re-volumize and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

JUVÉDERM® fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our skin. It’s derived from plants, so no animal products are used. JUVÉDERM® is the world’s leading brand of hyaluronic acid facial fillers.

What does filler do?

  • It hydrates the skin.
  • It adds volume to lift your temples and/or cheeks.
  • It plumps your lips and refines your lip shape.
  • It contours your chin and jawline.
  • It smooths lines around the eyes and mouth.
  • It lifts and projects eyebrows.
  • It improves the under-eye area.

And more. See the graphic below.

Does it hurt?

Our medical cosmetic injectors ensure your comfort from the beginning to the end of your appointment.

Depending on where we’re injecting, we may avoid using needles altogether and opt for a micro-cannula instead. Sometimes called the “ouchless needle,” it’s small, and the tip is rounded for optimal comfort. With this type of injector, the risk of bruising and damage is minimal. ReNue’s fillers also have the built-in numbing agent, lidocaine, for maximum comfort.

What should I do after my appointment?

Immediately after getting filler, apply an ice pack or cold compress. Try to avoid wearing any makeup for 12 hours after the treatment, and for the two weeks following, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or UV rays, freezing temperatures, saunas or steam baths, massaging the area or putting pressure on it.

Is it safe? Any harmful long-term effects?

Getting filler is a safe procedure. The right cosmetic injector will make sure you look natural, younger, and feel great. You’ll see the best results when you combine fillers with other treatments like BOTOX COSMETIC®.

If you are unhappy with the look, hyaluronic acid filler can always be dissolved with small injections of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. The key is not to overdo it.

How long do results last?

There are many variables, so it’s challenging to give an exact timeline, but depending on the treatment area and product, results last between nine and 24 months.

The degree of movement in the filled area plays a role. For example, filler in areas with more activity, such as the lips, will metabolize faster than filler in areas that move very little such as the cheeks, temples, jawline, or orbits of the eyes.

Who is qualified to inject filler?

A cosmetic injector requires years of continuing education, intricate knowledge of facial anatomy, and a steady hand. Our expert medical injectors are highly experienced and undergo continuous training to remain at the forefront of the industry. Beyond their medical expertise, our health-care providers also have a sharp eye for aesthetics, ensuring you get favourable, natural-looking results.
