Fact Vs Fiction The Truth About Coolsculpting

CoolSculpting Myths Debunked

CoolSculpting has been making headlines lately, and not necessarily the good kind.

At ReNue, our team of professionals have been treating clients with this effective, fat-freezing procedure for years, and we want to set the record straight. Despite what you may have heard, our team stands firmly behind CoolSculpting as a safe and effective way to reduce fat.

If you’re feeling hesitant about this treatment, we’d like to take this opportunity to put your mind at ease by debunking some common myths, addressing concerns, and answering questions you may have about CoolSculpting.

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved treatment that freezes away fat cells. It is done using a special applicator that will suction pinchable fat while applying intense cold temperatures. It is a non-invasive, extremely safe procedure that targets fat cells only, leaving the surrounding healthy tissue completely undamaged and untouched.

Some popular areas people like to treat with CoolSculpting are the chin, back, upper arms, abdomen, hips, and thighs. A single CoolSculpting session can reduce fat by up to 20%.

Treatment times range from 35-45 minutes or up to a few hours , and the number of treatments necessary varies from patient to patient, depending on a person’s body type and cosmetic goals.

The FDA deemed CoolSculpting safe in 2010, but the technology isn’t new. Harvard began researching fat-freezing technology as early as 1999, with 100 peer-reviewed studies and third-party clinical publications available.

Since then, more than 11 million successful treatments have been conducted worldwide. The complication of PAH /paradoxical adipose hyperplasia as a result of CoolSculpting is an extremely rare event that occurs in approximately 0.05% to 0.39% of treatments

Who Is a Candidate?

If you’re looking to try CoolSculpting, here’s how to determine if you’re a good candidate:

  • You are healthy and active and within 20 pounds of your goal weight but have some stubborn fat that you just can’t shed.
  • The fat is pinchable.
  • You are not pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

5 Common Myths

As we mentioned earlier, there is a lot of “fake news” circulating about CoolSculpting. Here are five common myths we’ve heard, and the truth behind them:

CoolSculpting is for everyone.

CoolSculpting is not for everyone. If you are overweight, this procedure is not the best option for you. And if you have cryoglobulinemia, paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, lymphedema (or other lymphatic conditions), or fibromyalgia, you should steer clear of CoolSculpting completely.

CoolSculpting is a weight loss treatment.

This is completely false. CoolSculpting is a body contouring procedure, not a weight-loss treatment. Reducing fat does not equal weight loss. CoolSculpting helps to eliminate the number of fat cells in that area, whereas with weight loss, the fat inside the cells is reduced, though the number of fat cells remains the same.

CoolSculpting is painful.

You might find it slightly uncomfortable, but CoolSculpting is not considered painful. You’ll probably feel a cold sensation and a bit of numbness at the beginning of the treatment but that soon goes away and you’re free to relax until it’s over.

You’ll see results instantly.

This is not true. It takes about 12 to 16 weeks to see results, but sometimes it can take up to six months after your treatment to see any changes.

You’ll never develop fat in that spot again.

This truly depends on how you care for your body after treatment. As always, it’s important to continue following a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise to maintain the results of CoolSculpting.

What to Do If CoolSculpting Is Not for You

With all this being said, CoolSculpting is not for everyone. If you don’t meet the requirements or would like to explore other avenues to get rid of fat, book a free consult with us to discuss your other options.

An alternative to CoolSculpting offered at ReNue is Deoxycholic Injections. This non-invasive injectable solution dissolves fat to treat various areas on the body. ReNue was actually one of the first clinics in Calgary and Airdrie to offer it and is an effective alternative for some patients.
